Why I’m Riding
I’ve wanted to embark on this journey for a long time. With all that’s happened over the last year and a half, now felt like a good time to get out of the daily grind and focus on gaining perspective from our customers and those in local government. Less than two weeks into a nearly 4,000-mile journey, and I’ve already experienced freedom, connection, joy, mishap, and disaster (these stories and more, coming soon in Blog #2).
As I get back on the road after most likely losing the OpenGov Cloud Cruiser (support vehicle) in a flash flood (not a joke; story coming soon), I’m reminded of the trip’s purpose — reconnecting and recognizing the people who’ve led a patchwork quilt of communities after being challenged by the pandemic and so much more. It’s about shedding light on the individuals who have relentlessly shown up for their communities because these local governments represent the core of our country.
At OpenGov, we equip local government leaders with the solutions they need to effectively and accountably serve citizens and staff. As an organization, we want to reach out and thank them for their service and honor them for their tireless efforts that often go unnoticed. We’re also excited to support the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute For American Democracy and its mission to improve civics education, civic engagement, and civil discourse. OpenGov will be matching donations to the Institute up to $10,000, so I encourage you to consider making a donation that will have twice the impact.
This ride is for public sector visionaries and for future generations of local leaders who will impact our nation for years to come.
