Excited to Welcome Peak Democracy to the OpenGov Family
Today I’m thrilled to share that Peak Democracy is joining the OpenGov family! The company’s signature solution – Open Town Hall – helps hundreds of government agencies across the U.S., Canada, and Australia collect feedback from citizens, host online forums, and uncover actionable insights via participatory government.
Open Town Hall is a natural complement to our easy-to-use, integrated Smart Government Cloud™, which features robust solutions for Budgeting, Operational Performance, and Citizen Engagement.
“We’ve partnered with both OpenGov and Peak Democracy for the past two years to help us make our data more accessible and understandable to the public, and get their feedback,” said Sara Dechter, comprehensive planning manager for the City of Flagstaff. “My colleagues and I have been talking recently about how complementary OpenGov and Peak Democracy’s tools are, so we’re really excited about the acquisition. It will result in a set of integrated tools that will help governments like the City of Flagstaff be more transparent, and make better decisions.”
This acquisition is a milestone for OpenGov that comes on the heels of several other announcements: we closed our $30 million Series C funding round led by Emerson Collective (bringing our total funding raised to date to $80 million); nearly 100 customers have adopted our Budgeting solution in less than one year; and we made major enhancements to our Operational Performance solution (including the introduction of Performance Measures).
OpenGov’s vision is to build the leading Smart Government Cloud. It already provides robust Budgeting, Operational Performance, and Open Data solutions that help governments streamline their budgeting process, better manage their day-to-day operations, and share their data with citizens. Integrating Open Town Hall into our Smart Government Cloud transforms our Open Data solution into the industry’s most complete Citizen Engagement solution, and adds a participatory budgeting capability to OpenGov Budget Builder. Using OpenGov, governments can now share their stories via data, narratives, and multimedia; solicit feedback from citizens; and incorporate the feedback into their plans, budgets, and day-to-day operations.

Peak Democracy is OpenGov’s second acquisition. In April of 2016, we acquired Ontodia – the leading provider of open data solutions using CKAN, the premier open-source standard used by thousands of governments around the world. Since then, we’ve successfully integrated the company’s team and technology into OpenGov, become the top contributor to the open source CKAN standard in the U.S., and helped numerous forward-thinking cities like Boston launch the next generation of open data portals.
