Productivity in Today’s Fast-Paced World

Productivity in Today’s Fast-Paced World

As technology thrusts forward at light speed, the workplace demands that people be able to effectively fulfill their responsibilities and remain efficient in doing so. The word ‘productivity’ is a word often used interchangeably to describe this same process.

To be a productive employee in a world driven by tech, it’s important to ensure that we focus appropriately on areas that allow us to do our jobs better. This includes areas such as learning, personal organization, decision making, creativity, and time management.

To make the most of the overwhelming availability of technology, it’s important that both employees and organizations dedicate time to increasing their productivity.

  •  In our weakened economy, it’s crucial for employees to perform to their complete ability. As organizations are reorganizing and down-sizing, secure jobs often lie in the hands of productive employees. Productive employees, by definition, get more work done in less time, offer better solutions, can tackle bigger projects, and simply do a better job of getting things done. These employees are the all-star employees, and as a result are provided the most career growth opportunities.  In order to be an effective, productive employee, one must commit to being a life-long learner, working to better skills essential to all employees today, such as stress management, personal organization, and time-management. All can be easily honed with appropriate focus.

  •  Productive employees give organizations greater potential to succeed.  In my opinion, investing in the productivity of your employees is one of the best investments an organization can make. Whether it be sending your employees to a user-group, or purchasing new software to ensure current processes remain most effective, there must be support from organizations for their employees to “sharpen the saw” in order to remain an effective organization.  On top of that, studies show that the most productive employees are often the happiest employees, increasing employee loyalty and retention.  Organizations who actively encourage the growth of their employees are often industries leaders, and I don't think that's a coincidence.

Productivity is an invaluable asset to both employees and organizations hoping to remain efficient in a society expecting instantaneous response times. Over the next couple months, I’ll be contributing articles covering many of these areas in greater detail; offering insight on how to increase productivity and explaining why being productive is especially important in today’s workplace.
